TAFRO Syndrome is a variant of  multi cents rice Castleman's disease and is identified in Japan. It is described among middle-aged and elderly people, rarer among young people. The syndrome consists of:

  • Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
  • Anasarca (Body fluid)
  • Reticulin fibrosis in bone marrow (biopsy)
  • Renal function is reduced
  • Organomegaly (large organs)

TAFRO may occur with other diseases, including autoimmune rheumatic diseases, infections and cancer.


The treatment consists of immunosuppressive drugs.
