Definition
TAFRO Syndrome is a variant of multi cents rice Castleman's disease and is identified in Japan. It is described among middle-aged and elderly people, rarer among young people. The syndrome consists of:
- Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
- Anasarca (Body fluid)
- Reticulin fibrosis in bone marrow (biopsy)
- Renal function is reduced
- Organomegaly (large organs)
TAFRO may occur with other diseases, including autoimmune rheumatic diseases, infections and cancer.
Treatment
The treatment consists of immunosuppressive drugs.
